ASUU CONDITIONALLY SUSPENDS THE NINE MONTHS OLD STRIKE

 The Academic Staff Union of Universities has conditionally suspended the nine months old industrial action that began in March 2020.


The Union gave this announcement following series of meetings they had with the Federal Government after so many negotiations regarding the platform of Salary payment of the University lecturers.



After the meeting on 22nd of December, when all hopes were raised about calling the strike off after the Minister of Labour has given much assurance to the whole Nigerian Student that the action will be called off as soon as possible.


ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi made the announcement during a briefing of the union in Abuja, explaining that the development followed the agreement reached with the Federal Government and a meeting with its National Executive Council (NEC).



Even though the Union gave a warning that the strike will be resumed immediately the Federal Government draws back in their part of the agreement, all Nigerian students are now in a celebration mood as they will be given a chance to return back to school to continue their studies.


Also no official date of resumption was yet announced as the Union informed that the resumption date will depend solely on the Covid-19 guidelines and also the school's senate decision.
